PROJECT
1 : Abstraction DESCRIPTION: Construct a three to five minute video of an environment or object. Focus on abstracting the shot in such a way that the elements of the environment or object transform into a non-representational or subjective appearance. For example, video cameras are generally capable of extreme close up or macro shots; this might be a useful technique to use to abstract your piece. Make a sequence of shots that subjectively describe your object or environment without revealing its original context.

PROJECT 2 : Abstraction (The Edited Version) DESCRIPTION: Edit your video in Final Cut Pro® to change the original meaning of the footage from the first sketch. Pay attention to creating new rhythms, connections, and meanings.
|
PROJECT 3 : Abstraction (Importing Audio) DESCRIPTION: Substantially alter the meaning or concept of the " Abstraction" project of Sketch 2. |
PROJECT 4 : Identity DESCRIPTION : Create a video that investigates your identity. Do you have multiple identities? How have the people around you helped to shape your identity? You may look at issues of gender, sexuality, race, and religion. How do you see your physical body in relation to the mental projection of yourself? What metaphors, actions and symbols may be used to relay information to an audience about the construct of yourself? Feel Free to use abstraction techniques used in the past sketches. |
PROJECT 5 : Appropriation DESCRIPTION : Appropriation is the act of taking possession of or assigning new purpose to an existing idea or thing. The term "Appropriation" refers to the use of borrowed or pre-existing elements to create new work. Once the image, concept or sound is borrowed from the surrounding world it is then re-interpreted into a new video. Formulate a video using only appropriated video and source material. The finished result should be a video that is clearly identified with the artist/student. |
